Maktoub al Waha (Morroco) | 2026–2027

I am currently working with the University of San Francisco to design an oasis restoration project in the Moroccan desert. Intended to encourage sustainable tourism, the site will be an anchor point for visitors to learn about desertification, climate change, impacts on residents and what can be done to help people survive there. The project will also educate about local agricultural methods and animal husbandry, as well as the local culture of the Beduin and Amerzigh peoples.

We think desertification is something far away or in the future, but in fact we’re already finding sand in Europe and other parts of the world. We are all connected and will all soon be impacted by climate change if we are not already.

As this project is developing, I have also been supporting the Zamane festival, an event hosted on another site in Morocco that has an educational program similar to what we hope to build with USF project. See also my involvement with Playing for Change Foundation and the work of Joudour Sahara.
