Over the past two years, I have been meeting with a group of architects and designers to address the fact that construction accounts for approximately 40% of global carbon emissions. We focus on lowering embodied carbon through thoughtful material selection and efficient construction methods, including smart framing, minimizing the use of concrete, optimizing concrete mixes, and replacing high–global-warming-potential insulation with carbon-sequestering alternatives. We also bring in experts to discuss emerging materials, advocate for carbon-neutral construction practices, and educate clients.
